Dr. Simone Griffin

Dr. Simone Griffin is the Superintendent of Benton Harbor Area Schools in Michigan and a PDK International Distinguished Fellow, recognized for grounded, people-first leadership in complex district environments.

With a career that began as a day-to-day substitute teacher, Dr. Griffin has led across multiple roles and brings a rare combination of instructional credibility, operational clarity, and community-centered change management. Her leadership is anchored in a simple, demanding idea: you don’t rebuild systems by pushing harder. You rebuild them by listening better, co-creating with the people closest to students, and holding high expectations with real support behind them.

Known for prioritizing wellness, respect, and collective efficacy, Dr. Griffin champions stakeholder voice, transparent decision-making, and the belief that stability is created through clarity, consistency, and the “why” behind every move. In this conversation, she shares how equity, innovation, and courage show up as daily leadership practices, not conference slogans.
