Division Superintendent at Brunswick County Public Schools

Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette is the Division Superintendent for Brunswick County Public Schools. In her tenure as Division Superintendent, she has increased student engagement across the curriculum, provided access and opportunities for all and built capacity for long-term sustainability and success.

Dr. Somerville-Midgette earned her degrees from Lynchburg College, the University of Virginia and Liberty University. Her 22 years of experience as a teacher, principal and central office administrator and Superintendent in both rural and urban school divisions has provided her recognition as a recipient of the Virginia Iota State Outstanding Educator Award, the Evelyn P. Bickman Outstanding Undergraduate Alumni Award, J. Edward Petty Outstanding Graduate Alumni Award, the Woman Education Leaders in Virginia Mentor of the Year Award and the Brunswick County Chapter of the NAACP Educator of the Year Award, and 2022 Region VIII Superintendent of the Year, Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) Division Leadership Award Recipient for 2022.

Dr. Somerville-Midgette provides servant leadership for the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) as the President, Vice-President for the Women Education Leaders in Virginia (WELV), Secretary for the Coalition of Small and Rural Schools (COSARS), Virginia Governing Board Representative for the American Association of School Superintendents (AASA), and Treasurer for the Virginia Alliance of Black School Educators (VAABSE).

Dr. Somerville-Midgette resides in Clarksville, Virginia with her husband, Antonio.
